According to the Canadian Cancer Society "1 in 2 Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime." 

In 2017, an estimated:

  • 103,100 Canadian men were diagnosed with cancer
  • 103,200 Canadian women were diagnosed with cancer. 
  • On average, 565 Canadians were diagnosed with cancer every day.
  • 50% of cancer diagnoses were for either lung, breast, colorectal and prostate cancer.
Statistics from the Canadian Cancer Society also mirrors the recent 2018 report released by the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA). The report states over 90% of benefit payments went to living benefit policyholders in Canada. This is approximately $82.8 billion in living benefits claims in 2017. Total claims ($92 billion in 2017) is said to be up 4.3% from 2016.
In 15 years, Desjardins Insurance (Desjardins Financial Security) has paid over $80 million dollars in Critical Illness benefits.
  • 67% was due to cancer
  • 13% was due to Heart Attack
  • 12% was due to Stroke
  • 5% was due multiple Sclerosis
  • 3% Other
  • 82% benefits paid for females was due to Cancer
  • 52% benefits paid for males was due to Cancer
  • 24% benefits paid for males was due to Heart Attack
Desjardins' claims data shows the average age of benefit recipient is only 49 YEARS OLD.
