We're looking for your input on Continuing Education Guidelines.

The Insurance Council of BC is consulting on proposed Continuing Education Guidelines for licensees. We are seeking input from you, our licensees, to provide feedback to the members of Council as they consider adopting these guidelines for implementation in 2021.

Consultation will be held online, from now until July 31, 2020. We invite you to read the proposed guidelines, get informed, and provide your feedback.

What is this about?

Licensees must meet continuing education (CE) program requirements established under Insurance Council Rule 7(5) as a part of their professional responsibilities. These CE requirements have previously been established through notices to licensees on this topic ICN-08-004, ICN-08-005, and ICN-05-001) and supplemented with website information. However, until now, there has not been a comprehensive CE guidance document for licensees.

In order to provide better support to licensees, the Insurance Council is proposing that new CE guidelines be adopted for use. These guideline documents for each licence class aim to make CE requirements easier to understand, address inconsistencies, and provide more specific guidance and resources.

If Council were to approve the guidelines, implementation would not occur until 2021, and would not impact the extended deadline or current criteria for 2020 CE requirements.

Where to find information about the proposed guidelines

You can find the proposed CE guideline documents on the Insurance Council website, including summary and comparison information.
