Advocacy Efforts Adapted to the Unprecedented Times

There is no doubt 2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Things certainly appear to be getting much brighter as we mark the halfway point of 2021.

Your BC Provincial Advocacy Committee (PAC) has been hard at work advocating the need for BC’s government to introduce Title Protection legislation.

Raising The Bar

In April, your BC PAC Co-Chairs Rob Bauml and David Webb joined Advocis staff for several productive virtual meetings with more than 35 members of the BC NDP Caucus, six of whom were Cabinet Ministers.

The discussion surrounded the need for BC to take a leadership role in Western Canada by following the leads of both Saskatchewan and Ontario in passing legislation to protect the titles of Financial Advisor and Financial Planner.

Advocacy Network

Momentum is growing, and we’d like for you to be a part of it!

The newly created Advocacy Network brings members across Canada who wish to play a role in our advocacy success together in one place.

Only those who are members of the Advocacy Network can attend Legislature Days, so don’t miss out!

National Advocacy at a Glance

Our Government Relations (GR) staff, working with our PACs, continued working hard on your behalf.  Some highlights of their work over the past year include:

  • Meeting with Federal Ministry of Finance staff to ensure Advocis members would qualify for government COVID-19 supports
  • Hosting two advocacy “Coffee Talks” in the popular Advocis Coffee Talks series
  • Working with the Advocis Communications team to update the COVID-19 Member Resource Centre
  • Launching Advocis Connect to assist small business owners with financial advice
  • Successfully launching an advocacy campaign which resulted in Saskatchewan passing their Title Protection legislation in July, 2020
  • Communicating with key government and opposition staff across the country to ensure our voice was heard
  • Launching the new Advocacy Network and hosting a national webinar to introduce the network

2020-2021 Key Meetings

The hard work of our staff and advocacy volunteers resulted in Advocis securing several important virtual meetings, including:

  • 2 Ministers of Finance
  • 2 Attorneys General
  • 2 Regulator CEOs
  • 2 Deputy Ministers
  • 1 Political Caucus
  • 1 Minister of Finance Staff
