PDF version New Continuing Education Requirements for Licensees in June |
New Continuing Education Guidelines will come into effect for all Insurance Council licensees starting June 1, 2021. The Continuing Education (CE) Guidelines are made up of guideline documents for each licence class which describe the CE requirements that licensees must meet annually. From June 1 onward, these guidelines will replace the existing guidance for CE provided by prior practice advisory Notices. Until June 1, 2021, the current CE requirements remain in effect. Licensees are still required to meet their CE requirements for the 2021 licence period (June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021) by May 31, 2021 under the current criteria. After that, licensees will need to be in compliance with the requirements of the new guidelines for the licence period occurring June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. |
About the New CE Guidelines The guidelines are available to view and download from the CE Guideline page on the Insurance Council website. The following resources are also available to licensees to learn more about the CE guidelines: - Video overview of the new CE requirements
- Q&A about the CE Guidelines
- Summary of what’s changed in the CE requirements.

Under Council Rule 7(5), insurance licensees must meet the requirements of the Insurance Council's continuing education program. As such, licensees are expected to be aware of and comply with the guideline requirements. As we get closer to June 1, 2021, we’ll be reminding licensees about the new guidelines. In May, we’ll be hosting a webinar about the new guidelines and answering your questions about CE. Please watch for an event invitation email to follow closer to that time. We’re also working on developing additional tools and resources for licensees including: - Online CE recording tool. To make CE credit tracking easier, an online recording tool is being developed and will be available by late summer.
- CE course accreditation. To create more clarity about what courses are eligible for CE credit, the Insurance Council is introducing an accreditation system for CE courses and course providers. This is still in development and will involve stakeholder consultation as its next step.
