Adding the underwriting rules engine to the electronic application will allow us to gradually automate and improve the underwriting process. We'll be able to approve more insurance applications on the spot, while you're meeting with your clients.

This is just the beginning, as we plan to use the rules engine to:
  • Increase the number of decisions at the point of sale.
  • Gradually fine-tune underwriting rules. We'll be able to identify which kinds of applications are most often referred to head office and which ones are usually approved at the point of sale. Using this information, we'll be able to gradually increase the number of immediate decisions. Adding the rules engine to the new electronic application will give us better results and revamped interface.
What are the main changes?

In addition to increasing the number of immediate decisions, the new rules engine will require a few other changes to how you work.
New interactive insurability questionnaire:
  • The current questionnaire on health, lifestyle and family history will be replaced by a new interactive insurability questionnaire that adapts to client's answers. To get full details about your client's situation, they'll be asked additional questions each time they answer yes.
  • By getting more information about your client's condition, you wont need to do as much follow up.
  • How long it takes to complete the questionnaire will vary slightly, depending on the client's medical conditions.
  • With the interactive questionnaire, you can no longer ask 2 clients to answer the questions at the same time, because the form will adapt to each person's answers. You'll need to go through the questions in order for each person.
  • We've moved the health, lifestyle and family history questions to the end of the insurability process (after the validation and locking step). The red and green icons are still there so you can track your progress.
  • Electronic applications cannot be unlocked: If you need to make changes, you'll need to include them in the Notes and attached files section.
  • Managing saved cases: You can no longer delete cases once they are locked.
  • Running end-to-end hypothetical cases: For now, you wont be able to run hypothetical cases through the electronic application. Because the application is tied to the MIB, we want to avoid assessing cases that will never be submitted.
  • Slight changes to your documents: You'll have a new, separate document for questions about health, lifestyle and family history, since they'll no longer be included in the same PDF as the electronic application.
