Details on the New COVID-19 Federal Benefits

Clients who lost their job as a result of COVID-19 most likely would have been receiving the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). The CERB was originally launched in March 2020 and was the government’s principal emergency benefit for individuals, offered to both employees and the self-employed. The Sanctity of Insurance Designations

Insurance advisors will be very familiar with the benefits of designating a beneficiary under a life insurance policy. The proceeds of the policy flow outside of the estate, and are paid directly to the named beneficiary upon submitting proof of the insured’s death. Also, where the insurance is payable to the spouse or children of the life insured (or in Quebec, to family members of the policyholder), the proceeds are generally not subject to claims of the deceased’s creditors.
