As a response to the Canadian Securities Administrators’ (CSAs) January 2017 consultation paper on “Banning Embedded Commissions”, AGF Investments Inc. has been sponsoring a research initiative with the Gandalf Group Inc., an independent research firm.
The purpose of the research is to promote the perspectives of investors, advisors and fund managers on the issues raised by the CSA. Preliminary research has established that Canadians are satisfied with much of the financial service advice they receive, however, there is a need to expand that research base. AGF has approached Advocis to reach out to our membership and ask if you would like to participate.
Your participation in this research will include sharing client contact information with a third-party public opinion research firm, The Gandalf Group Inc., which has been retained for the purpose of confidential survey research on some of the issues raised by the CSA. Please note that these lists would only be viewed by the research partner directly and neither AGF nor Advocis would have direct access to the respective lists.
The individual investor survey is approximately 15-minutes in length, is done over the phone, and will gather insights on:
- Demographics and profiles of advised investors
- Satisfaction with advice, fees, transparency, investment performance
- Preference for fees, fee-based or the commission-based service
- Awareness of different commissions and fees paid to advisers
- Assessment of fee disclosure, statement review
- Assessment of improvements to transparency and details regarding commissions, including rating the acceptability of trailing commissions
Results published by the Gandalf Group would be proprietary to AGF and advisory service partners who participate. Your participation would be at no cost. Findings would be reviewed by AGF prior to any public release.
